About God’s Business Podcast: The Missed Message In The Rich Young Ruler

There is a passage of the Bible that talks about a rich man that approached Jesus (Yeshua).  There is a missed message in the rich young ruler’s interaction with Jesus.   Listen to the podcast at the bottom of the page.  Thank you.

Many people are taught that poverty is the way to serve God. Many have given away their living expenses in exchange to live as the impoverished. Helping the poor is important but teaching a man to earn more income is more critical without changing their culture. We can show them there is a better way of living. If we are called to live in their community than that is a different story. We will have to give up certain comforts to be a part of their community while God is rebuilding that community. Giving is, but we also have a responsibility to take care of our families, and Abba provides support to take care of ourselves. He is a loving Father and knows we need provision.

Most of us are not called to permanent living situations among the impoverished because of this why would we still give away all we have and live off of government assistance in an effort to be more Christ-like? Many of us have a walk for which we are called like the rich man to give up all we have but the major point that is missed over the years is that to follow Christ was not poverty but this man trusted in his riches. Let’s look at that scripture.

23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God!” 24 This amazed them. But Jesus said again, “Dear children, it is very hard[b] to enter the Kingdom of God. 25 In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!”

{b} of the footnotes state 10:24 Some manuscripts read very hard for those who trust in riches.

It is hard for those who trust in riches. Jesus asks this young man to give up his fortune so he can begin to trust in Yeshua. Not because he wanted him to be poor. He needs him to let go of his false belief in riches to embrace his trust in Jesus. Therefore anyone who tells me I should not earn money or change for serves is not operating according to scriptures. I have learned not to trust in money. I had a long hard walk, and I had to give up many things because I was relying on money. I know having full trust in God looks irresponsible to the world because they have faith in money and that is what this scripture is about in the end, idolatry.

Thank you for listening and or reading the broadcast.
